When the temperature rises, our bodies work hard to maintain a healthy internal temperature. One of the ways our bodies do this is by sweating. When we sweat, we lose water from our bodies. In fact, when we are exposed to high temperatures, we can lose up to 4 liters of water per day through sweating.
This loss of water can lead to dehydration and other health problems. It’s important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, especially water, when it’s hot outside.
The amount of water you should drink per day depends on several factors, including your age, sex, weight, activity level, and climate.
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommends that men drink about 3.7 liters (125 ounces) of fluids per day and women drink about 2.7 liters (91 ounces) of fluids per day. However, this is just a general guideline. You may need to drink more water if you are physically active or live in a hot climate.
A good way to check if you are drinking enough water is to look at the color of your urine. If it’s pale yellow or clear, you’re probably drinking enough water.
